Professor Nick La Thangue from Oxford University's Oncology department explained: 'As our understanding of the mechanisms underlying inflammation has increased, interest in PAD enzymes as targets for treatments has grown. PAD4's presence in cancer was well known but its role was not - rather like continually seeing someone at crime scenes but not being able to prove they're involved

OWhat is adrenal fatigue? It is a syndrome characterized by a list of symptoms a mile long. Because it is such a long list many doctors don’t recognize it. It can be misdiagnosed as depression or stress, or thyroid problems, because the symptoms of these things overlap and contribute to the problem.

Within the field of oncology, there are three primary clinical disciplines: medical oncology, surgical oncology, and radiation oncology. A medical oncologist specializes in treating cancer with chemotherapy (the use of drugs to kill cancer cells, usually by stopping the cancer cells’ ability to grow and divide) or other medications, such as targeted therapy and oral (in pill form) chemotherapy. A surgical oncologist specializes in the removal of the tumor and surrounding tissue during an operation. A surgical oncologist also performs biopsies (the removal of a small amount of tissue for examination under a microscope). A radiation oncologist specializes in treating cancer with radiation therapy (the use of high-energy x-rays or other particles to kill cancer cells).

Cancer cells know what they need to proliferate, for example, glycolysis confers a significant growth advantage by producing the metabolites needed for cancer cells to grow Glycolysis is a process that breaks down glucose and produces two ATP, two NADH and two pyruvate compounds. What happens to pyruvate in cancer cells depends on a variety of factors including oxygen supply and the stage of the cancer growth. Tumor glycolysis metabolism results in an increased acidic environment from the production of lactic acid that is toxic to most cell types but is tolerated by the tumor cell. In addition, an acidic environment from many sources can trigger glycolysis
